HEAT RECOVERY VENTILATION

Heat losses from houses occur both through the fabric of the building, which insulation and high quality windows can address, and through the infiltration of cold air. Draft excluders can only do so much - there are usually lots of hidden pathways through walls that you can't easily plug up.

Tree House has been designed to be air-tight to prevent these heat losses. This obviously has to be complemented by good ventilation. Happily when you have control over your ventilation, you can also control the heat losses.

In the months when we want to conserve heat, we will turn on our whole-house mechanical ventilation system. This will take stale air from the kitchen area and bathrooms and replenish it with fresh air. The outgoing air is passed across the incoming air (without mixing), enabling up to 90% recovery of the heat. Our Vent-Axia LoWatt system has a low power consumption, so we won't be sacrificing too much electrical energy to recover the heat energy.
