SPECIALIST TIMBERSThe main structural frame of Tree House is made with engineered 'I beams' made from Scandinavian softwoods. But there are many other timbers required for sheathing, cladding, roof trusses, floors, built-in furniture, etc. Two of the most important pieces of timber in the house will be the two tree trunks that penetrate all three floors of the building, around which the staircase will wind and rise. Stripped of their bark and polished, but not turned, these will be a vivid and tactile reference to our inspiration. The trunks will be Douglas Fir from the considerable forests of West Sussex. Our supplier is Timber Resources International, run by Robin Carter. Robin has access to a wide variety of sustainable timber and can also bring his mobile sawmill to you, should you have some woodland of your own you would like to make fuller use of.
